To the Ignorant, Bigoted, and Complacent uses subversive design to confront societal complacency around LGBTQ+ hate crimes by making the issue tangible and impossible to ignore. Motivated by the frequent erasure of LGBTQ+ violence in mainstream discourse, it seeks to challenge ignorance and bigotry by exposing the scale of trauma, injury, and loss experienced by individuals worldwide. The design takes the form of a wrapped present—inviting yet unsettling—with a to/from card inside. While the "to" is addressed to everyone, the "from" unfurls into an unending strip of names, each representing a victim of LGBTQ+ hate, turning a seemingly simple gift into a powerful, immutable reminder of lives impacted and lost.
